Decluttering Made Easy! (I promise)
The word "decluttering" can feel intimidating. The thought of going through items one by one, making a mess before getting things organized again, spending hours of your day, and lugging items to donation centers — the list goes on.
But what if I told you it doesn’t have to be that overwhelming? By making three small changes, you can build what I like to call "micro-decluttering moments" into your everyday life. These simple habits will help you sort through what stays and what goes throughout the year, making decluttering a breeze.
1) Create a Laundry Area Basecamp
Set up a box, bin, or wall-hanging bag in your laundry area. As you come across items that no longer serve you — whether they’re outgrown, worn out, or no longer needed — place them directly into the bin. I use two bins: one for cotton items that I turn into cleaning cloths and another for donations. When the bins fill up, it’s time to act.
Both Target and Ikea have great affordable laundry bag options
2) Get the Household Involved
Decluttering isn’t a one-person job! Encourage everyone in your household to take part. If they’re old enough to sort and fold their clothes, they’re old enough to decide what stays and what goes. Have everyone designate a box, bag, or area in their room for items to rotate out or donate. Once a month, gather these items into a larger box or bag and either donate them or save them until you have a substantial haul.
3) Cash In on Quality Items
Don’t let quality items slow you down. If an item is too valuable to donate but no longer fits your needs, consider reselling it. There are plenty of resale platforms and consignment services (like Poshmark, Chairish, or ThredUp) that make it easy to sell items without much effort. You might even turn decluttering into a small side hustle!

Mercari - An online marketplace for selling all sorts of items — clothes, games, vintage items, electronics, handbags, toys, pets, outdoor gear, tools, books and so much more. You have to post and manage the listings yourself, but there are lots of items you can sell.
Those were just a few online resale platforms do a quick search and you’ll see there are so many more options.
By incorporating these micro-decluttering habits into your daily routine, you’ll avoid the overwhelm of tackling it all at once.
